You need a valid email address in order to use this website. We send a unique password to the email address you specify. The password allows you to log on to this website. If you are e-filing a return we use the email address to send you the resulting acceptance or rejection we receive from the government. If the return is rejected the resulting email will give you instructions for fixing the problem.
 
       
  If we gave you a password during a prior tax season you still need to request a new password for the current tax season. Passwords do not carry over from one tax season to the next.  
       
  According to government rules you can e-file as many as five Federal returns for each email address you use (during this filing season).
